The Camargue heritage in pictures
True lords of the arena, the cocardiers are the undisputed stars of the Course Camarguaise. Recognized for their bravery, intelligence, and agility, they are never killed. Their proudly raised horns are the trophies that the raseteurs try to touch in a meticulously timed ballet.
An essential learning stage and a spectacle in its own right, the course emboulée protects both the young bull and the young raseteur. The animal's horns are covered with protective balls (emboules), allowing them to safely get used to the intensity of the track before entering major competitions.
The Fé di biou (the taurine faith) cannot be learned in books; it is lived and transmitted on the ground. From the elders to the youth, from the track to the stands, it is a whole heritage of respect for the animal and age-old gestures passed down from generation to generation.
The living soul of village festivals. During the abrivados and bandidos, the bulls leave the arena to run through the streets, closely guided by the dexterity of the mounted gardians. A moment of communion and pure adrenaline with the public.
Raseteurs, manadiers, tourneurs, amateur or professional gardians... They are the beating heart of the Camargue. Women and men forged by the mistral wind and the salt, dedicating their daily lives to maintaining our regional identity.
Where the magic happens away from the public eye. The heavy silence of the toril before the race, the characteristic smell of the sand, the focus in the locker rooms. These places, full of history and tension, are what we invite you to discover from the inside with Arènes de Cœur.
